  2. Beautiful, M. Can you help me with some of the symbolism? I know the empty tomb. Is that the yoke, the heavy yoke Jesus will carry? How about that figure falling from the sky? The quail? Daisies for purity, I think. Is that a tree trunk where the wood of the cross has been cut? What a beautiful Virgin. And those shepherds are handsomely Italiano ;). What troubles Joseph? Is it that ominous demon falling from the sky? I love it. Thank you.

      I take it by googling a bit you’ll find much better answers than I would be able to give. I’d say Joseph is crossing himself in gratitude and the object in the sky is an angel, and the tree purely a landscape element (naked, though, as we are in Winter).

      I had to smile at the “handsomely Italian” comment as to us such people are, actually, perfectly normal… 😉
