The Francis I Like

Francis has received a chocolate Francis as a gift.

I like the “Chocolate Francis”.

He doesn’t talk.

Good luck eating all that God’s grace before Lent. I hope some Cardinal, Swiss guard or simple still-existent Monsignor will be willing to help.

  1. Hi Mundabor,
I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find a Traditional Roman Breviary. I’ve been looking but I can’t find one.

    Preferably before the Bugnini reforms.
    Thanks for your help

    • If you look at the top of the page, under “Online Breviary”, there is an excellent online version linked under the Spitweg painting.

Then there is an excellent app, “IBreviary TS” (Terra Sancta), that is in my eyes truly well made.

I would not know what printed edition to suggest, because they are very expensive and would not be practical for me to use.

  2. I’m not fond of chocolate. So I leave this edulcorate Francis to you.

Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat!

    • Not fond of chocolate?
      Do such people exist? 😉

    • Il feel your humble esteem for me is lowering because I’m not fond of chocolate. I hope that this horrible crime will not get me ousted from your blog !!

Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat !

    • I’ll have to ask in the Vatican whether not liking chocolate is self-absorbed Promethean neo-Pelagianism first 😉

    • Ha, ha, very funny! (Sehr lustig!) (Très drôle !)

    • Thanks! Danke! Merci! Grazie!

    • Come se dice “very funny” in italiano?

    • (Come si dice..)

      Molto divertente!

    • Thanks for your invaluable Italian lessons!

By the way, I’m German (which you most certainly know), but I’m also originating from the Black Forest (Foresta Nera), never conquisted by the Roman armies !!!!! (Sorry for you.) Why do I mention this ? Because I’m quite a neighbour of Msg Georg Gänswein, who is presently serving two Popes, both very happy to converse with themselves following Msg Gänswein, and anyway Msg Gänswein speaking of himself as « Pontifex – the maker of bridges ». I have been wondering why you have never searched into this personage, his role and his influence, though a very amiable personage he is, as all of us Black-Foresters (REALLY humble persons) are, of course !

Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat !

    • I’ll have to research the one with the black forest better, Rhizotomos ;). I though in my ignorance all Germany as far east as hesse and to the Limes (still existing in Hesse) was taken, and you had to go to Thueringen and further east to find never conquered territories.

It would be a shame is civilisation had never touched your shores.. 😉

  3. So have you seen the front headlines of today’s The Catholic Universe?
“Queen will visit Pope at his humble private apartments”
Why go on about this? What is humble about this?
His proper apartments are vacant and presumably still have to be maintained?
This all must cost more surely?
    All very odd.

    • I have written about this.

There have been reports in the press that the present suite in the Domus Sanctae Marthae is larger than the papal apartments; which must still be mainatained. I have read no denial of this.

The article is also subtly insulting of the Queen, who has at her disposition at least sections of several very large and splendid properties (Buckingham palace, Windsor Palace and the residence in Balmoral; I think there are others, but these are the most used) but, if you ask me, is a paragon of modesty and humbleness compared to our Pontiff.
