Hhmmm….. What Is St Paul Trying To Say Here?

Unmerciful, homophobic hater...

Unmerciful, homophobic hater…

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approveof those who practice them.

  1. Someone at the Synod should read this to all the participants. It seems that someone along the line they have forgotten the words on St Paul on Catholic morality.

  2. What could *THAT* mean?!

  3. A little creative exegesis can help answer your question from an enlightened, progressive point of view, without taking refuge in obsolete hate-filled ideologies of the past, showing the text in complete harmony with the merciful revolution of mercy undertaken by our saintly liberator, Pope Francis.

Paul is clearly saying that gossip is evil. He talks about the need for mercy. The intention of the biblical text cannot be questioned, although certain cultural limitations of the ancient past are in evidence: That we should stand together against sexism, homophobia and all forms of hate and discrimination.

Paul also tells us that greed is wicked. He is obviously condemning capitalism in the harshest of words. All capitalists will go to hell and are the devil’s spawn.

The other verses have been added later, by the evil institutional church, in order to oppress women, minorities, the poor and persons of alternative sexual orientations. The early church was egalitarian and inclusive, as biased research has conclusively demonstrated.

What’s not to understand about this perfectly clear biblical instruction, Mundabor!? Repent and turn back from your evil, intolerant ways!

Laughing out loud at Catocon’s exegesis of this passage from Romans.

Yes, Mundabor, this passage makes perfectly clear the evils of sodomy, but those who want to baptize sodomy object to the fact that it was written by St. Paul, etc., etc., etc. How unfortunate Pope Franny is leading these heretics.

There’s also 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, which is most frankly translated in the Jerusalem Bible:

“You know perfectly well that people who do wrong will not inherit the kingdom of God: people of immoral lives, idolaters, adulterers, catamites, sodomites, thieves, usurers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers will never inherit the kingdom of God. These are the sort of people some of you were once, but now you have been washed clean, and sanctified, and justified through the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and through the Spirit of our God.”

A catamite is a boy kept by a pederast. St. Paul observes hat sodomites, along with the other categories, have been able to change their behavior through the grace of God–something many in the Synod prefer to overlook.

  6. A previous comment perceives Paul to be a pervert and as twisted by worldliness as so many of our contemporary cowardly clerics. In happier days more intelligent haters of Christianity argued that Paul was just a hateful Jew, that deserved contempt, Nietzsche was one of these. The idiocy of our current crop of anti Christians is proof positive of a devolution in intellectual standards.
