The Root Of The Problem

The SSPX.org site has a long, extremely interesting interview with the Superior General, Fr Pagliarani.

Fr Pagliarani conducts a brilliant dissection of Amoris Laetitia and -very rightly in my eyes- inserts it in its proper historical context: Vatican II.

I enjoyed reading his interview not only for the lucidity of Father’s argument, but because in my eyes he goes at the heart of the problem. Vatican II is the root of all evil that is befalling the Church. The restoration of sanity will have to go through the total and complete repudiation of the novelties of that Council. There is no other way to restore orthodox Catholicism, because stopping at the half of a slippery slope will cause one to… keep slipping.

Two examples he brings are particularly poignant: the constant reference to JP II (a bad Pope by any serious standard) undermines the very argument, as it tends to fight disease with something also diseased; and the irony of having Cardinal Mueller strongly criticising Amoris Laetitia, when he himself insisted that the SSPX accepted the novelties of V II.

This is a brilliant interview that I suggest you read in its entirety. As the Superior General states at the end, the way is the total embrace of the Church as it was, not the attempt to distil something good from the novelties of V II which, in the end, cannot be found.

We need to demand, just to make an example, that the Church ditches the Novus Ordo Mass in its entirety and goes back to the Tridentine Mass just as it is, without any sort of survival of the former or hybridization of the latter. The same goes for the ecclesiology etc.

Father Pagliarani is moderate in the tone, but very hard in the substance. I think his analysis of the root of the problem is spot on. I wish the Society were more assertively vocal against Francis, but I am assertively vocal by nature and others prefer a different approach.

A prayer or three for him are absolutely in order.

  1. Thanks Mundabor for bringing SSPX Superior General, Fr Pagliarani article to our attention. By this stage of the game in the Catholic Church everyone should realize that Vatican II was a sort of license to kill the Catholic faith especially since Pope Francis inflicted himself on the Church and the world. God has given us a sign with Pope Francis.

  2. I, too, thought the interview was excellent and recommended it to others. Thank you for your insightful analysis, good sir.

  3. I moved 700 kilometers to join an SSPX parish. My past life of profound befuddlement and sense of abandonment and inability to relate to really bizarre and evil goings-on at the parish level and pleading with the bishop to make things right has been lifted. I have joy now.

Rolling back VII in isolation is not the solution. Banishment of Modernists from the Chruch is the only long term solution.

  5. Can someone please discuss the thinking on why the SSPX has been silent about the obvious apostasy going on in the church, and what Catholics ought to be doing? I mean, am I the only one who thinks it is, I don’t know, negligent, of the SSPX not to openly state the situation and warn the faithful? Souls are at stake are they not? Many of us are not confused about what we are seeing, but many Catholics are. I don’t hear the SSPX doing anything. I realize that keeping the Holy Mass intact is a wonderful thing, God bless them for it, but my gosh, what about the souls who don’t know and may actually follow this horrible pope into perdition? Who is going to warn them?

    • Oh, it’s not that they do not condemn Francis. Pagliarani does it, too.
But the tones aren’t the ones that get the headline or send the forceful message out.

  6. Can’t be silent if you’re disciple of Jesus Christ who has chosen and given you, priest a lot of powers and wisdom to “bear witness of the light that all men through him might believe…” Did John the Baptist shut up his mouth on the sins of the leader, the king? It is black and white, dark and light, compromise with darkness is not working. The wisdom is standing up for Jesus and his least brothers. May God have mercy on them.
