Fat Francis Forgets His Job

“Ministry”, I suppose…

I have written very recently about the enormous size of the Evil Clown, and the fact that he might soon have to be hauled with a truck to allow him to get anywhere.

This is, in itself, sad enough, though I hoped it kept him from his Maundy Thursday antics. It appears it will. So far, so… fat.

However, I was actually informed only today that the guy has not celebrated one single mass for months now. Not one. Zippo. Nothing. Nada.

Well, this is a huge whisky tango whatever moment here. I had read, and commented, about the fact that Francis says he is doing fine and (I can now quote from the same linked article) “has no physical problem serious enough to impede his ministry”.

Really? This guy can’t celebrate Mass, and he does not consider this an impediment to his ministry? Who does he think he is, Fat Friggin’ Fidel Castro?

Last time I looked, there was nothing more important for a priest than the offering of the sacrifice of the Mass. I am pretty sure every priest who has not completely lost sight of what he does – even among Vatican II, Novus Ordo priests – will tell you that the very foundation of what he does is the celebration of the Mass.

Priests are not required to attend ecumenical meetings every day. They are not required to take part to interconfessional round tables every day. They are not required to have tea with the members of parish committees every day. But they are required to celebrate mass every day. The offering of the Sacrifice of the Mass constitutes the very core of what a priest is. This guy can give this up altogether and consider it fully irrelevant to his “ministry”.

I don’t know if this is simply the result of Fat Francis considering the Mass so little that he just forgets to account for it when speaking of his health, or just desiring to anger Catholics by wilfully making them notice what little consideration he has for the Sacrifice of the Mass. I don’t even know what would be worse, as in both cases the arrogance is breathtaking. But then both hypotheses are fully in line with Francis’ character and disposition.

Fat Francis.

Boggling the mind to the very end.

  1. I’ll be amazed if he misses an opportunity to pick the feet of illegal invaders, spiritually sick “transgenders” and “binaries” on Holy Thursday.

Does he pray the Divine Office? I was taught that that comes before Holy Mass in the duties of priests.

  3. I know several NO, Vatican II, clerics who are adamant that offering sacrifice is tangential, if anything, to being a cleric. Social work, advocacy, writing, teaching (heck, even golfing), all take precedence. One even argued that “Vatican lI changed all that sacrifice nonsense”, and cited Lumen Gentium as a reason. Those of a certain age group (perhaps as old as the evil clown) preside over services as infrequently as possible.

  4. there is no requirement to say Mass everyday. This may have applied under the 1917 Code of Canon Law but Canon Law was revised and promulgated in 1983 by Pope Saint John Paul Ii. The Pope does say private Masses and presides and preaches at all public Masses. This is perfectly appropriate.

Actually, no. Canon law highly recommends saying Mass daily but it is not mandatory. It is mandatory to pray the breviary daily.

  6. still your point is well taken. Sacraments and prayers are priorities not bureaucratic and institutional functions.

  7. He’s competing with whoopie cushion fools gold.

the reason is that if the priest commits a moral sin he should not say Mass. He can and should pray when he is not in the state of grace.

    • This is also new. AFAIK, A priest can and should celebrate mass even if he is in mortal sin, and the sacrifice will be valid.

I do agree with you that it is unsettling to think that the Roman pontiff has not celebrated the Holy Sacrifice in a while.

It is not an uncommon practice in religious communities like the Jesuits where you have several priests without a public Mass that they gather for a community mass. Depending on the community it can range from a very low key Mass to a regular Novus Ordo Mass like you would have in a parish. Most often the priests concelebrate but sometimes they just pray the mass like a laymen while another celebrates. Francis probably given his poor health follows that pattern.

while that post-conciliar practice can be questioned and criticized it is the prevailing practice in many religious communities.

The traditional practice was that big Jesuit houses had multiple private Mass chapels where priests could celebrate their Masses.

As you know pre-conciliar theology emphasized the sacrificial aspect while post-conciliar theology focuses on communion and community. Francis follows the latter.

sorry if I sound like Michael Matt, but Bergoglio is not a stand alone specimen without a history. In him we see the fruits of the council and the trends leading up to it.

N.O. priest here. Late comment. Too busy during the Triduum to spend time online. The comment thread is sadly accurate in its account of the modernist priest’s attitude to the Holy Sacrifice.

But to the Rahnereian, a diocesan priest failing to concelebrate Chrism Mass with his bishop is anathema. For the bishop not to celebrate Chrism Mass with his priests is unthinkable. The pope-splainers who defend this omission are inventing arguments on the fly. Pope Francis has jumped the shark.
