Finally, An Orthodox Pope?

"Surprised, uh?"

“Surprised, uh?”

 EDIT: APRIL FOOL’S JOKE!

I have been a vocal critic of this Pontiff whenever I thought it was necessary, but I must say perhaps (just perhaps) we are seeing the end of the tunnel here.

In yesterday’s homily, the Pontiff has invited the present to

“eliminate our non-Christian ways of acting: sodomy, abortion, adultery, fornication, because they can lead us straight to hell, no?”

I am not sure about the constant use of those rhetorical questions (it must be an Argentinian thing), but I do approve of every word. It is to my knowledge the first time the Pope condemns abortion and fornication openly and unmistakably, and the reference to adultery is a very good sign concerning the Extraordinary Synod in October.

I also liked the other part, when  – speaking of the Blessed Virgin – he called her “Virgin most wise” and “Throne of wisdom”. It seems to me that he is preparing to backpedal from his astonishing affirmations about the Blessed Virgin being “perhaps” tempted to cry “Lies” and complain of being deceived upon seeing our Lord on the Cross.

Well, early days. One swallow does not a summer make. Still, it cannot be excluded the man has decided to spend some time near some pious, non-Jesuit man of God and learn some sound Catholicism.

As they say in Argentina, it’s never too late.

  1. Well, lets see if can cans some heretical bishops and priests in the next few months!

  2. Oh, I believe every word of this.

  3. Finally, An Orthodox Pope?

I’m really pleased. Honestly, I am. But after a year of the opposite? Isn’t it a bit too little too late and through the wrong channels? Let the mainstream media hear it in an interview! If he believes it, let him live it too.

  4. I’ve GOT to ask: is this an April Fool joke?

  5. Maybe some Argentinian reader could explain wether it exists a relationship between Argentinian Spanish and Turin’s and Piemont’s dialects in this ‘no’ in the end of some Bergoglian sentences. Not only the comic actor Macario in his time , but nowadays too the very strong and ‘ musical’ neee’ is frequently used .It has many different meanings , from expressions where parents feign to menace their children (Fa il bravo, neee ! something like ‘behave well , or else’ or when a relative sense of surprise ,astonishment ,wonder is being stressed , ‘L’e’ propi svich , neee ‘ ( he’s really smart , isn’t he ? ). Who knows what Bergoglio wants to point out….

  6. All I can say is: Wow! thanks be to God! Perhaps all those repetitious, Pelagian Rosaries offered at the beginning of his Ponticate are finally having an effect? Maybe the FFI’s prayers did it? Whatever it is, I hope the trend continues unabated. Let’s keep praying that the Holy Spirit tweaks him some more. . .

  7. Too obvious. He’d NEVER say THAT!

  8. I fell for it, hook, line & sinker.

  9. This sounds too good to be true.
If this is an April Fools joke, it is very cruel.

  10. Let us pray and hope he continues in this vein rather than what we’ve been experiencing otherwise! Interestingly, I saw Francis speaking to those in the mafia saying: “Please, I beg of you to give up your life of sin. You’re money is stained with blood, your pleasure will not last past this life. You will not take your money with you and you will go straight to hell. Repent! Think of your mother and father when you were a child. We are praying for you. It is not yet too late, be converted and repent!” I was shocked when I listened. Pleasently so, but shocked indeed. May he continue to speak this clearly!

  11. Maybe our 127,577,316 rosaries are bearing fruit!

  12. Mundabor: Is this an April Fools joke?

  13. surely an april fools joke.the bishop of rome couldn’t possibly have said such a thing!! Philip Johnson.

  14. Help me out, Mundabor: is this true, or a cruel April Fool joke?

  15. Is this for real? The Bones has a similar comment about Archbishop Nichols, and it’s an April Fool’s Joke. But I do hope it’s true!
    Akita-ette, are you actually COUNTING?

  16. You nearly had me for a minute there. It is April the first.

  17. Jack O'Malley

Ludum callidissimum ac festivissimum fecisti, Mundabor, no? 🙂

  18. Jack, at the end of your question, not”no”, but ” nonne” is more correct, latine.

  19. Bergoglio is the Cantinflas of the Catholic Church, he can say a great deal without saying anything!

  20. http://liturgy.co.nz/new-ecumenical-english-missal This article refers to a surprising announcement from the Pope – In Latin! called ‘Aprilis Stulte Dies’ …

  21. Rosy,

Sure it is (though nonne should be at the beginning of the sentence not the end.) But the “no?” was intended as the same “no” that the pope uses. Just a little joke.
