Spot The Pope

“I am worried by the Blessed Virgin's messages to Lucy of Fatima. This persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church is a divine warning against the suicide of altering the Faith, in her liturgy, her theology and her soul….

“I hear all around me innovators who wish to dismantle the Sacred Chapel, destroy the universal flame of the Church, reject her ornaments and make her feel remorse for her historical past.

“A day will come when the civilized world will deny its God, when the Church will doubt as Peter doubted. She will be tempted to believe that man has become God. In our churches, Christians will search in vain for the red lamp where God awaits them, like Mary Magdalene weeping before the empty tomb, they will ask, 'Where have they taken Him?'”

Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, future Pope Pius XII, 1931.

Let me tell you what I hope will be the outcome of World Youth Day: I hope there will be noise. Here there will be noise, I’m quite sure. Here in Rio there will be plenty of noise, no doubt about that. But I want you to make yourselves heard in your dioceses, I want the noise to go out, I want the Church to go out onto the streets, I want us to resist everything worldly, everything static, everything comfortable, everything to do with clericalism, everything that might make us closed in on ourselves. The parishes, the schools, the institutions are made for going out … if they don’t, they become an NGO, and the Church cannot be an NGO. May the bishops and priests forgive me if some of you create a bit of confusion afterwards. That’s my advice. Thanks for whatever you can do.

Francis, Bishop of Rome, 2013.

What the great Pope of the past feared, my dear friends, we are already living with the disgraceful Bishop of Rome of the present.

  1. What can you say on this quotation from Ven. Leon Dehon?: “Priests should leave their sacristies and go out to the people.”

    Josémaria.

    • I think that it can be very easily misconstrued for V II waffle. Of course pastoral work belong to the duties of a priest, but what is your point exactly? Or do you think Traditionalists want to lock priests in their sacristies?

  2. He (Ven Dehon)was talking about the so-called “Social Apostolate” (before Vatican II)based on “Rerum Novarum”. Just visit http://www.scjphil.org and click on the menu: “Our Founder”. After that under his biography, look for: “Our charism in the life of Our Founder”.

    Thanks.

    José Maria

    P.S I am a Traditionalist too.

  3. Mundabor,
let me quote Screwtape on Noise (Letter 22):
    “My dear Wormwood,
    (…)
Music and silence – how I detest them both! How thankful we should be that ever since Our Father entered Hell (…) no square inch of infernal space has been surrendered to either of those abominable forces, but has all been occupied by Noise – Noise, the grand dynamism, the audible expression of all that is exultant, ruthless and virile. Noise which alone defends us from silly qualms, despairing scruples and impossible desires. We will make the whole universe a noise in the end. We have already made great strides in this direction as regards the Earth. The melodies and silences of Heaven will be shouted down in the end. But I admit we are not yet loud enough, or anything like it. Research is in progress.”

The humble Bishop is a great help to the likes of Screwtape, one must admit.

  4. Mundabor

I think the Pope is repeating what some of his predecessors and yes, Venerable Dehon have been say in in effect(I might be wrong): “Clergy and Laity must go beyond and not be hanged up on “Pelagian” Piety and All Traditional Rituals and Ceremonies like mass, novenas,Benedictions and Rosaries, just go and “Liberate” your oppressed brethren form “Unjust Structures” ( Save the Planet,Defeat Uncle Sam and his Banking Lapdogs,Fight for a Revolutionary Order,Simplify your Spiritual Life from static dogma etc…)for you can’t preach to Hungry Stomachs.”

“O Yes,Jesus hated the Pharisees for their Expensive Robes and Elaborate Rituals”.

Of Course,I will have to disagree with him.

What is the Use of the First Three Commandments if we Ignore them from start to finish?

    Josémaria

    • I honestly doubt the Bishop of Rome would be in a position to recite, off-the-cuff of course, the Ten Commandments.

I have posted a rather atrocious video on the subject a couple of months ago. There’s nothing that let’s me to think the Bishop Bergoglio is better than the priests interviewed. In fact, they all sounded like as many “Bergoglini”.
They’ll make a good career under him. Be assured of that.

  5. I have been reading ‘Windswept House” by Malachi Martin. A large part of the plot has to do with Cardinals working to force the Pope to resign, and also their efforts to restructure the authority of the Church in favor of synodality. While I have never sought to read anything written by Malachi Martin, I must say that he is stating the situation as we are seeing it at this time. I found it for free online. FYI….
