Cardinal Sarah Gives A Stern Warning To Francis

Cardinal Sarah

Cardinal Sarah

Read on Rorate Caeli the news of Cardinal Sarah openly warning Francis & Co. about the heresy of detaching the Magisterium from pastoral practice.

His words are brutally clear, and I quote them here again. The emphasis is, I think, Rorate’s.

“The idea that would consist in placing the Magisterium in a nice box by detaching it from pastoral practice — which could evolve according to the circumstances, fads, and passions — is a form of heresy, a dangerous schizophrenic pathology. I affirm solemnly that the Church of Africa will firmly oppose every rebellion against the teaching of Christ and the Magisterium.”

To call the “theology on his knees” “heresy” and “dangerous, schizophrenic pathology” is, I think, as clear as any word ever pronounced by Cardinal Burke himself. The clear mention that the Church in Africa will “firmly oppose every rebellion” drives another concept home: we will oppose rebellion even if headed by the Pope.

Cardinal Sarah is another one who decided to warn Francis before he does something extremely stupid, instead of waiting for him to do so and then complaining.

One can hope many others will follow his example in the months to come.

  1. What an uncommon relief to hear the tenets of authentic Catholicism spoken from the Vatican hierarchy! We shall see if Cardinal Sarah maintains his orthodox stance or weakens under pressure from Team Bergoglio.

  2. I feel your mistrust, which is not entirely undeserved.

Still, I think that when high prelates give such strong warnings only months before the Synod, they are already prepared for the worst.

I cannot imagine they do not talk to each other, by the way.

  3. TALK is CHEAP. When the excrement hits the aeration device, WALKING the WALK is something entirely different. I will pray for Cardinal Sarah.

    • At this time, no more than talk can be done. And I would object to talk being cheap at this point. Those who speak out clearly make a lot of enemies in high places.

  4. After a day wandering through various blogs, that is THE MOST ENCOURAGING STATEMENT I have read.
May he be gifted with knowledge, wisdom, understanding, counsel and fortitude.

    • It is a day in which a Cardinal promised to protect orthodoxy no matter what.
We call it a great day.
It actually is; but at the same time it tells us at what point things have come.

  5. I think most, if not all of your readers, have been praying for grace for the cardinals who will be involved and/or affected by the horrendous synod. Cdl Sarah’s public statement is a great grace, as he knows what has happened to Cdl Burke, yet he speaks out anyway. I see it as almost a challenge to Francis. We who are praying must increase the prayers and the penances for the cardinals and all who will be involved in the upcoming synod.

  6. Pope Francis appointed Cardinal Sarah to his current position for a reason. Those who think things are going to change are worrying for not. I spent 15 years in Argentina and have come to understand him well.

    • Funny guy.
Francis appointed Sarah because he needed an African, and over there they tend to be rather Christians.
Your claim that your having lived in Argentina should make us all blind and stupid isn’t very smart.
